Sydney Chaskalson

Born in Johannesburg in 1928, Sydney Chaskalson volunteered in 1948 to fight in Israel's War of Independence. After the war he was active in the Torch Commando and other anti-apartheid organisations and political parties. The CEO of a publicly quoted South African manufacturer (he was Businessman of the Year in 1976), he retained his dedication to the Israeli cause, emigrating there with his late wife to Israel in 1979. In Israel he became an activist for the Labour Party. A lifetime lover of nature and with a vital concern for Middle-Eastern politics and diplomacy, this is his first novel.
